When Liverpudlians the Coral first burst onto the scene we were promised something like a cross between the La's and Captain Beefheart. The reality was somewhat more prosaic but their psychedelic take on the guitar pop of the era was more colourful and explorative than their peers. Their self-titled debut was a sea-faring classic gaining them a Mercury Music Prize nomination and a large following that has stuck by them to this day.
